Wakui Mayu is perhaps the most interesting antagonist to appear in GTO. He's tough, dangerous, and full of dirty tricks to bring Onizuka down. He's also quite hillarious. Never have we seen Onizuka so frustrated, or driven so close to insanity, before Mayu showed up. But beyond all of this, there's a certain tragic vibe that exists just below the surface of Mayu's smiling, devious face.

Mayu has seen the dirty side of humanity. He's been exposed to the worst kind of people. He's been betrayed, lied to, and generally neglected by adults in his life. Is it any wonder he's developed this attitude problem? He trusts no one, save for a few very close friends (I would guess Miyabi and Kikuchi). But who can blame him? Once you've experienced betrayal, you're more cautious about who you allow into your life.

But through Onizuka, Mayu has learned that it is possible to trust and respect an adult. It is possible to believe that there are decent people still out there in the world. It is possible to let your guard down every now and then.

Mayu is a highly entertaining character who is somewhat underrated. I've been told that he wasn't even in the anime (I can't believe they skipped his arc, as it was one of the best stories in the manga). I don't know of many people who like him. Hopefully, with this fanlisting I can find others who recognize what a great character he is. So if you like Mayu as much as I do, go ahead and sign up!
